From November 10, the new passport control system in the EU comes into force

The European Commission has confirmed that from November 10 in the countries of the Schengen zone, the electronic control of passports for the entry and exit of passengers who are not citizens of the European Union will come into force.

The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be an automated system for registering travelers from third countries whenever they cross an external EU border, including fingerprinting and facial photography.

"We are building a new system on interaction with databases that can communicate with each other. This means that we will welcome millions of visitors to Europe in an easier, and smoother way. So, for example, with the entry-exit system, we will no longer have manual passport control. And this will also speed up queues and electronic controls", said Anita Hipper, spokeswoman for the EC.

The entry/exit system was established in November 2017, but its implementation has been postponed several times. Citizens of about 60 countries, including those of the Western Balkans, will be subject to this system.

Passports in all the countries of the region are biometric, and contain the necessary notes, so they are fully in line with the conditions that the EU has requested so that the countries of the Western Balkans have a visa-free regime.
