Rama from Abu Dhabi: An agreement with Italy and the United Arab Emirates will make us an exporter of electricity to the EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced during an official visit to Abu Dhabi that the trilateral agreement for the underwater energy connection between Albania and Italy will be finalized.
This will be triple-owned and aims to increase energy production capacity.
Increasing capacity means independence, but also opportunities for export to EU countries.
"Greetings from Abu Dhabi. We are about to set another milestone on our path to energy independence. Together with the Prime Minister of Italy, our dear friend, Giorgia Meloni, at the invitation of the President of the United Arab Emirates, another friend, we are finalizing the trilateral agreement for the underwater energy connection between Albania and Italy, as well as the increase in solar energy production in Albania. The connection will have triple ownership. This also serves our ambition to become independent from imports but also gives us a role soon as an exporter to the EU. Albania is today the country with the highest capacity of self-producers from solar energy in the region. Solar energy has gone from zero percent to nearly 10 percent of our energy production and our plan is to reach 30% within our fourth mandate. "Albania was the only country in the region that did not increase the price of electricity during the European crisis in 2022-2023, and as of February 1, Albania will officially become the only European country to reduce the price of energy," Rama said.
