If the EU wants to save energy, it needs to cut back on the moves to Strasbourg

Whether it's to reduce dependence on Russian imports, or to make savings before winter, reducing energy consumption is a hot topic across Europe right now.

In Brussels, key institutions, including the European Parliament, have pledged to reduce heating to help conserve energy.

But one MEP says that if it really wants to save energy, the EU should get rid of the practice of moving MEPs between Brussels and Strasbourg.

"It seems to me completely unjustified that we continue to travel between the two countries", said the German MEP of the Greens, Daniel Freund, to Euronews. "I think that because of the energy crisis we should stay here in Brussels."

According to the EU treaties, Strasbourg is the seat of the Parliament's plenary sessions, where its members debate and vote on key issues. This happens 12 times a year.
