Today, Tirana closed the year as "European Youth Capital". In a ceremony with young people at the Palace of Congresses, the baton for 2023 passed to the city of Lublin in Poland. Mayor Erion Veliaj said that an important year is coming to an end for Tirana, but another equally important one is starting, the year of the "European City of Sports".

"As I was reflecting on what this year was for me, I realized that some things are very important: Dreams are very important. We dreamed of being members of the Security Council and today Albania is a member of the Security Council. We dreamed that one day Albania would be the most advanced country, one of the countries that has made the most progress, thinking about where we started and here we are, 2 days ago, Albania and Tirana were the epicenter of Europe, the great home of EU-Western Balkans Summit," said Veliaj.

He also recalled one of the biggest sports activities this year in Tirana, such as the Uefa Conference League.

"Dreams matter, but first you have to dream. We had to work hard to realize our dream, for Tirana to be the European Youth Capital. It was a dream for us that a UEFA final would happen in Tirana, like the Conference League one. It was a dream for us to one day be chosen as the European City of Sports and dreams are important because only dreamers rise from the mud, rise from the swamp, rise from the swamp, think the beautiful things, that they want to achieve, realize them and when they achieve it, they are success stories, as was our Tirana," continued Veliaj.
