Nike creates uniform for female athletes at the Olympics and is accused of sexism
Nike unveiled the new uniforms that U.S. athletes will wear at the Paris Olympics this summer. One of the female versions of the uniforms has attracted more attention due to the greater exposure of the cleavage, hips and stomach area.
Many have described it as inappropriate, especially in a world-class event.
Nike justified that the creation of the uniforms was well thought out and tested with the athletes to be as efficient as possible.
Former athlete Lauren Fleshman, who won five NCAA championships and two national championships as a professional, called the outfit "a costume born of patriarchal forces that are no longer welcome or necessary to detract from women's sports. If this garment would be really beneficial for physical performance, men would wear it too," she said.
