"The real game hasn't started yet." Squid Game reveals the dates

The 2024 Olympics may be in the spotlight, but the "real game" will begin when Netflix releases Season 2 of The Squid Game on Thursday, December 26.

The broadcasting company revealed the release date for the highly anticipated season of the South Korean drama.

With the announcement, Netflix also revealed that its third and final season will be released in 2025.

"The real game begins. Season 2 of Squid Game comes December 26th. Final season comes 2025".

The trailer, a nearly minute-long clip, begins with a close-up of men and women running on a crowded track.

As many of them are heard screaming and falling, the camera focuses on Front Man saying, "It's been three years. Do you want to play a game?"

"Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his research, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious: he looks for the man in a suit playing ddakji on the subway."

"But when his efforts finally pay off, the road to bringing down the organization turns out to be deadlier than he imagined: to finish the game, he must re-enter it," the synopsis continues.

The series' creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk writes an open letter to fans.

"Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season 1, returns and rejoins the game. Will he succeed in his revenge? Front Man doesn't seem to be an easy opponent this time either," he wrote . "The violent clash between their two worlds will continue in the series finale with Season 3 next year."
