The University of Oxford announced the word "Rizz" as its word of the year due to the popularity of the term Gen Z uses to describe one's ability to attract, seduce and woo others.
"Rizz is a colloquial noun, defined as style, charm or the ability to attract. Etymologically, the term is believed to be a shortened form of the word charisma, taken from the middle part of the word, which is an unusual word formation pattern Rizz can also be used as a verb and this extension to other parts of speech indicates that the word is becoming more prominent in the language," according to the Oxford University Press website.
The winning word is chosen each year by experts working with the publishers of the Oxford English Dictionary with four finalists chosen by the public by vote.
