"The look of a woman during sex is so important, because there are many ways people communicate through sex. In a way, through sight, they show what the body says about someone else. "It's important that there is a reversal of sexuality and how people are treated and presented in such scenes."

Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington) on the other hand said that the focus on women's satisfaction in the series is to show that 19th century women had real 'desires', even if society did not accept it at the time.
