Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei had a tragic fate. The 33-year-old was burned with gasoline by her boyfriend. Death came as a result of multiple organ failure after suffering 80 percent burns.
"We have learned of the sad death of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei… following a vicious attack by her boyfriend," Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president Donald Rukare said in a post on X.
"Cheptegei passed away this morning after her organs failed," Owen Menach told Reuters news agency.
What led to the tragic event is still unclear.
