The Dutch government will act on the border just like Germany. There will be increased controls at the border to try to avoid illegal immigration. The move is the government's latest attempt to tighten controls.
Dutch Migration Minister Marjolein Faber announced the new policy.
"It is time to tackle irregular migration and migrant smuggling in a concrete way. That is why we will start reinstating border controls in the Netherlands from the beginning of December," she said in a statement.
The move, set to take effect on December 9, is in line with EU law that requires member states to notify Brussels four weeks before restricting freedom of movement. Since before September, the movement between the Schengen area was without borders.
