Kylian Mbappé urges French youth to vote against far-right: Le Pen's defeat more important than the game

Kylian Mbappé has placed himself at the heart of France's political crisis with a call to prevent extremists from taking power in snap parliamentary elections called by President Macron.
The 25-year-old's words come at a bleak time for Macron's centrist camp, which is facing defeat, according to polls.
Mbappé made his intervention at a press conference ahead of the match with Austria on Monday.
Le Pen's defeat is more important than our match, says the country's most popular footballer as 150 French athletes condemn her party's 'Nazi ideology'.
"This is an unprecedented event," said Mbappé. "And this is why I want to talk to all the French people, but also to the young people. We are a generation that can make a difference. We see that the extremes are knocking on the door of power and we have the opportunity to shape the future of our country."
