Bill to allow euthanasia in England and Wales proposed

A bill to allow euthanasia in England and Wales has been introduced in the British parliament today.

Under the bill, generally adults diagnosed with a terminal illness and expected to live less than six months, and provided the patients have mental capacity, will have the right to end their lives with medical assistance.

But for that to happen, two independent doctors would have to give an opinion in favor of euthanasia and a Supreme Court judge would have to sign off on giving the patient a lethal dose of drugs. Anyone who pressures a person to seek euthanasia faces up to 14 years in prison.
