Rama in Berlin: Representatives of the German embassy drive without a seat belt in Tirana
During a panel "The European Perspective of the Western Balkans", held in Germany, Prime Minister Edi Rama criticized the staff of the German embassy in Tirana, where he said that they drive without seat belts.
"Corruption is the motto, the key word that you always hear when people talk in European languages about Albania or the countries of the Western Balkans, but I want to make sure that you understand my point of view that to fight corruption, in fact, is to build the state, to modernize, it's institutions, it's actually creating systems that make it impossible for corruption to interfere in people's daily lives.
I always mention an example with the German embassy in Tirana. Some time ago, wearing a seat belt while driving was a problem in Albania, given that freedom can come in a day, but democracy needs more time.
So, Albanians after 50 years when they had no private property, no private vehicle, nothing private got their first private vehicles and in fact, they were not comfortable wearing seat belts, but the Albanians who came to Germany and lived in Germany did not they didn't even think of letting the vehicle go without wearing a seat belt.
I saw members of the German embassy giving the car without a seat belt in Tirana, which means that it is not about the people, it is about the system, it is about the institutions, it is about the legal environment that is above everything other. This is the battle," he said.
