The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and the Minister of Agriculture, Frida Krifca, today presented the new agri-food market in Farka, AgroPark Tirana, built especially for farmers, who can sell without private taxes, while consumers will buy cheaper organic products, controlled and certified according to European standards.

In his speech, Mayor Veliaj explained how the new market will work, which will save merchants 70% of the costs they previously paid to the private sector, and will also offer citizens cheaper organic products.

"In the private market, you paid without knowing what you were going to sell, without knowing how much the stock is in the market, because there was a fixed price of what is called 'measuring the head with a string'. In this market we pay up to 70% lower, not to make a profit, but to make sure that here it is kept clean, that there are guards, lighting, hygiene and there is some kind of order just to cover the costs, saving everyone 70 % of payments that went to private profit", he underlined.

Veliaj also announced a transparency system for the products that will be sold in this market. "As there is a foreign exchange, for many of the products we should also have a mini-exchange here. We will have a price table, where people know according to demand and supply, where the prices beat. This transparency system certainly makes the market more competitive, it informs people not only about the price, but also about the origin from which it came", he declared.

The Minister of Agriculture, Frida Krifca, underlined the fact that the market will bring the farmers of the border areas closer to Tirana.

"This market is built not only for the consumers of Tirana, which is the biggest market we have in our Albania, but it is a market that will also receive products from Elbasan, Shkodra, Dibra and giving access to practically all farmers of Albania, they can meet here," she said.

The AgroPark Tirana market will bring higher profits to farmers thanks to the lower rental prices and non-rationing of any product that circulates in the market, as well as cheaper prices for the consumer.
