Veliaj: We have preserved the historical identity of the city. A Library and Puppet Theater will be built at Garda

Mayor Erion Veliaj spoke about the historical identity of Tirana today in the weekly column.
The approach of the Municipality of Tirana is characterized in three aspects:
"We want to preserve the Historical Identity, conserving important buildings and spaces; to give life to historical buildings and spaces, and the third, to invest in creating a Tirana for the future, by building spaces, but also contemporary buildings for the second 100 years of Tirana the Capital. Anyone who says otherwise is not telling the truth, even lying. What is valuable to the city will remain valuable to the city and no construction has been made into a cultural monument. What has value has been preserved, restored, returned to the public and citizens, in function of both tourism development and the local economy," says Veliaj.
As a real example of the preservation of the values ??and historical identity of Tirana, Veliaj brings the building of the Toptan Palaces, the care for the Clock Tower, the New Market, the Castle of Tirana, etc.
“Përqasja jonë për konservim është mishëruar në sjelljen tonë me ndërtesën e ‘Sarajeve’, të cilën e shpëtuam kur donin ta digjnin për ta bërë pallat dhe po e kthejmë në një hapësirë muzeale, për të cilën kemi nisur punën për ta restauruar dhe hapur për publikun, si Muze Etnografik i qytetit. Po ashtu bëmë edhe me pallatin e Maks Velos, ku janë edhe shtëpitë e dy shkrimtarëve të mëdhenj, Ismail Kadare dhe Dritëro Agolli, të cilat sot janë kthyer në pole turistike, si muze të qytetit. Kulla e Sahatit është një tjetër xhevahir identifikues i Tiranës. Prandaj, vetëm pak orë pasi kemi hyrë në këtë zyrë në 2015-ën, puna e parë që bëmë ishte rregullimi i orës, që i kishte ngecur për 4 vite, nga ata që sot bërtasin për identitetin, por nuk e kishin fare problem që Sahatit i kishte ngelur ora, edhe qytetit gjithashtu,” u shpreh ai.
Një reagim kryebashkiaku e kishte për ata që komentojnë kullat në Tiranë.
“Jo pak njerëz thonë se sfondi i Sahatit po shkatërrohet nga kullat që ndërtohen pas tij. Përgjigjja ime është e thjeshtë: për 30 vjet sfondi i Sahatit ishte “Torre Drini”, një kullë pa asnjë vlerë estetike dhe arkitekturore, ndërtim tipik barez i Italisë së Jugut. Jam gati të vë bast se sfondi i ri, i një hoteli me 5 yje, duke ruajtur dizajnin karakteristik, do të jetë shumë më dinjitoz mbas Sahatit, seç ishte “Torre Drini”. Xhamia e Et’hem Beut u restaurua dhe iu rikthye zemrës së Tiranës me një imazh super dinjitoz. Më kujtohet ende histeria dhe paniku që u krijua nga gjithologët, që thoshin po bie minareja, dhe ngatërronin silikonin e çatisë provizore me vetë minaren dhe dëmtimin e saj që nuk ndodhi kurrë,” nënvizoi kreu i Bashkisë.

Therefore, I want to clarify that half of the space in the former Guard of the Republic, which has passed to the Municipality, will be used for the new Puppet Theater, so that the children do not go to an old building with blankets and towels, but go in a modern theater. The rest will be for the new National Library. You all know that the existing library is overflowing with books and has had problems over the years, including fire and floods. Meanwhile, the rest of the guard, after the Library and the Puppet Theater, joins the Lake Park as another green space, which adds to the great transformation that has taken place in the Lake Park," said Veliaj.
