The powerful explosion in Athens left one injured and damaged several buildings
One person was injured and several buildings were damaged by an explosion in Athens this morning.

Officials say it is not known what caused the blast, which shattered windows and destroyed the facades of buildings and shops up to 200 meters away on Syngrou Avenue, which connects the center of the Greek capital with the southern suburbs.

Authorities are investigating whether the blast occurred due to the placement of explosives or was an incident.

The blast came a day after heavy snowstorms engulfed the city blocking thousands of people in traffic and closing several schools and vaccination centers.

About 18 firefighters used seven engines to fight the fire in a building, while the crime investigation unit had also arrived at the scene.
