The problem that many have and few talk about is why we suffer from constipation

Many people, when they leave home for several days for reasons of work or vacation, experience the so-called "traveler's constipation".

Suffering from constipation for a few days is not a worrying fact, but the reasons behind this disorder can help us understand our organism.

Among the reasons why many are unable to defecate during vacations are the temporary time zone change, departure anxiety and even long journeys, especially by plane: these changes affect our habits and our bowels.

The process of returning to normal can take hours or days, depending on what was eaten and also on the characteristics of each person, but it can also be determined by many external factors, because the intestine is a routine organ and eating things of different can affect it. Barring health problems or intolerances, in fact, people carry out this process more or less always at the same time of day.

For some people it is normal to perform it several times a day, while others do it on average 3/4 times a week.

One element in particular that favors travelers' constipation is dehydration due to less water intake or increased sweating, often due to the summer heat. Often on vacation we drink less so we don't have to stop to urinate often, but water is important for stool consistency and to facilitate its passage to the last parts of the intestines.

Another element is the lack of mobility. On holiday, perhaps at the seaside, we move less and walk a bit and this favors constipation, as movement helps the substances in our intestines to progress along the digestive tract.

Some tips to avoid "traveller's constipation", according to Humanitas, are to drink enough water, do regular physical activity and consume foods rich in fiber such as vegetables, legumes and fruits (better if eaten with the skin).
