Once again, Adriano

Once again, Adriano

By Erjon Uka / Milan. Year 1937. Giuditta experiences for days some strange feelings and does not feel well. He goes to be visited, but the doctor's answer leaves him speechless . "Ma'am, are you pregnant?" She can not believe it, but at the same time she is convinced that that child will not be able to survive because it is a creature of elderly parents. He was 42 years old and at the time was considered as such. But the child shows stubbornness and greets the world from that house on " Via Gluck" , on January 6, 1938. They call him Adriano.

I do not remember any exact date when I could have heard a song by Celentano for the first time, but I know that for many years Italian music was a relief and inspiration for Albanians, and for my family as well. I remember that Celentano's music was used in the advertisements of the first private televisions in Albania, from the beginning of the 2000s, and every time "Il tempo se ne va" or "L`emozione non ha voce" started from the car cassette player. and the phrase " Aaa, this Celentano" always accompanied the beginning of the song. Later in high school I discovered that I was not the only one who admired Adriano. Driven by mobile internet access, we competed to find new, unknown songs. And it was not very difficult, because there I discovered that the repertoire we had heard for years in Albania was only a small part of the whole. Even today I wonder how it is possible that 16-year-olds who liked rap, hip-hop or reggaeton, at the same time admired 70-year-old Celentano. The power of art, for sure. Of real art.

Because Adriano Celentano is not just music. His repertoire is a living proof of our era, from economic crises (Svalutation), environmental issues and extreme concreting of cities (Il ragazzo della via Gluck), war and violence (Il figlio del dolore), politics (La situazione non e buona), betrayal (Solo da un quarto d'ora), different identities of people who thanks to conformism (Il conformista) manage to move forward in life. But he also sang about friendship, such as "Larcobaleno" with the verses " I left so suddenly, that I did not have time to greet you ..." . Song dedicated to Lucio Battist.

I have always seen his creations as part of a philosophy, uninfluenced by social change or market demands. Watching the first performance in Sanremo in 1961 and the last one live, in Verona in 2012, apart from the colors of the TV and a few more grays, Celentano looks the same on stage.

Following today's world of spectacle, where fame is achieved more outside the stage than inside it, there is no way not to be impressed by the conservatism of one of the symbols of Italy for several decades. The truth is that as in everything, Celentano's philosophy has not changed. He has been married to Claudia Morin for 54 years and said in an interview that "I have never believed in divorce, although I think people should get a license to be authorized to get married."

He is considered the first to make rock music part of Sanremo with the famous "24 mila baci". And it's the best example of how prices do not (always) even represent the tastes of the public. It was positioned in second place, but for five decades it has been sung and heard with the same desire as the first day. What about the first place song? And who remembers. " When I was introduced to Sanremo with '24 Mila Baci' I was told I was violent. For a festival like Sanremo, I was considered provocative with those body movements. There was even a parliamentary inquiry into why, for a few moments, I returned it. back to the public and viewers, "he said years later during a show.

In 2012 he came down to the Verona arena to give his last live concert. And in one of Italy's most difficult political and economic moments, the festival could have no name other than "Rock economy". In two nights, 22 thousand people attended the live concert, while six thousand tickets were sold at a symbolic price of 1 euro. 18 million viewers watched it live through Canale 5 making the concert the most watched ever. Although I wish I was in that concert, today, I will watch it again through the screen of Canale 5which rebroadcasts in homage to the 80th anniversary. I will certainly never have the opportunity to hear it live, see it from a few meters away and experience those emotions that I saw on the faces of the spectators in Verona. Although with Celentano you can never say never.

As if once again live, Adriano ...

* This is a post returned to Tiranapost. Today Adriano Celentano celebrates his 84th birthday.
