The new champion of the Australian Open is the 22-year-old from South Tyrol (now part of Italy), Jannik Sinner.
It was not a field of flowers for the tennis player. He has shown how he has coped with life since he was young and the sacrifices of separation from his family for the sake of pursuing his dream, sports.
"I left home at the age of 13, forced to grow up quickly: I learned to wash my own clothes, cook, go shopping. It is not so easy for a parent to let go of a child so quickly. We missed a lot of things with my parents that I am trying to recover today with my father, who sometimes accompanies me on tour. But my adolescence has been lost", said Jannik.
"My parents let me choose whatever I wanted. Even when I was younger, I also played other sports, but they never pressured me. I would like every child to be so free. So thank you to my parents."
As for the pressure on himself, Jannik says:
"There is always pressure, but pressure is a good thing to have. It's a privilege. Not all players feel this kind of pressure. When you are under pressure, you also have that feeling that you can achieve something. So I like to dance in a storm of pressure."
