Kim Yeji is the star of the Republic of Korea team in Paris.
She is the 10-meter shooter who has caught the eye of the world for style.
The X account 'Women Posting Ws', which appears to be the main source of her viral status, wrote alongside a photo of Kim shooting at a target, her back slightly arched, her shoulder high with her chin resting on him and his hand in his pocket: "the biggest aura I've ever seen in an image."
Almost everyone agreed that it looked like something out of an action movie.
The contraption she wears on her forehead is not a pair of glasses, but more of a miniature scaffold of sorts that aids her performance. Above her left eye is a small black rectangle, a shield that blocks one eye and allows greater focus on the other. Above her right eye was a small black circle, actually a relatively common piece of kit containing a mechanical iris to help avoid blur and allow for greater focus on the target.
The backwards hat at another point also caught the eye.
And the elephant hanging on her finger is lucky, because it is her 5-year-old daughter's toy.
But who is Kim?
Kim is 31 years old, originally from Maepo, which is about 100 miles southeast of Seoul, and now lives in nearby Danyang. She has been competing since 2006 and won bronze at the 2010 World Junior Championships in the 10m air pistol. On her profile on the International Shooting Sports Federation website, under the "hobbies" category, she simply lists "sleepers."
Kim told reporters that she couldn't wait to tell her daughter all about her success. When asked what it meant about the medal and her new status, Kim said: "I think I've become a bit famous now."
The only problem with all of this, if you can call it that, is that Kim didn't actually win. The gold medal went to her compatriot Oh Ye-jin, 12 years Kim's junior, who edged her by just a few points, setting an Olympic record of 243.2. Kim scored 241.3, meaning they both beat the previous record of 240.3, set by Russia's Vitalina Batsarashkina in Tokyo.
