A lost Mayan city has been rediscovered after being lost in the Mexican jungle for centuries.
PhD student Luke Auld-Thomas made the discovery by chance after reanalyzing old records, discovering pyramids, roads, amphitheaters and even sports fields that other archaeologists had previously missed.
The city was rediscovered with a type of laser called Lidar. This city is thought to have been home to around 50,000 people at its peak between 750 and 850 AD.
The city has been named Valeriana and the team also believes it is second in density to Calakmul, which is thought to be the largest Mayan settlement in ancient Latin America.
