Mental or physical work? Which makes you more tired, according to scientists

'Not overthinking' is one of the most precious gifts we can give our mind and body. And science confirms this. A research conducted by a group of researchers from the Salpetriere University in Paris, states that intense mental activity causes the accumulation of potentially toxic substances in an area of the brain called the prefrontal cortex.

The researchers monitored brain activity during a working day. Fatigue appeared especially in groups of employees engaged in mental activities. Regardless of what one might think, this phenomenon does not mean only those who work in the office, but also athletes: they suffer not only from physical fatigue, but above all from mental fatigue due to the high concentration required for matches. The experts found that these people had higher levels of a molecule called glutamate in the area of the prefrontal cortex.

The authors of the study based on the results of previous studies
claim that the accumulation of glutamate is responsible for the feeling of fatigue

What should you do? Rest and sleep. The results of the study show this. Glucamate is eliminated during sleep.
