The city may have been home to 50,000 people.

A student has accidentally discovered a lost city in the Mexican jungle which is said to be "the size of Edinburgh".
The discovery was made in the southeastern state of Campeche in the Central American country.

Archaeologists found pyramids, sports fields, paths connecting districts and amphitheaters in the southeastern state of Campeche.

They discovered the hidden complex - which they have named Valeriana - using 'Lidar', a type of laser technique that maps structures buried under vegetation.

"I was on page 16 of a Google search and found a study done by a Mexican environmental monitoring organization," explains Luke Auld-Thomas, a PhD student at Tulane University in the US.
Auld-Thomas and his colleagues named the city Valeriana after a nearby lagoon.
