Video of champion sleeping on bench raises doubts about conditions at Paris Olympics
Italian swimmer and Olympic gold medalist Thomas Ceccon was filmed sleeping under a tree after voicing his complaint about the conditions at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The 23-year-old's video has gone viral and sparked online backlash over the conditions where the players are located.
The Italian swimmer, who won the Olympic gold medal, had publicly complained about the accommodation facilities. Ceccon cited the lack of air conditioning and the quality of the food as a reason the athletes have moved.
"There is no air conditioning, it's hot, the food is bad. Many athletes move for this reason: it's not an alibi or an excuse, it's the reality of what maybe not everyone knows.'
'It is difficult to sleep both at night and in the afternoon' - Thomas Ceccon
Ceccon added that his fatigue was a major factor behind his poor performance at the Olympics in the 200m backstroke, saying, as quoted by the New York Post:
"I'm disappointed that I didn't reach the final, but I was very tired."
British Olympic Association chief Andy Anson also cited food issues, as quoted by the New York Post:
"There are no certain foods like eggs, chicken, carbohydrates. And then there is the problem of the quality of the food, with raw meat that is served to athletes".
There is still no reaction from the organizers of the Olympic Games.
